December 10th - Moses

Many, many, many years passed, and the family lived in Egypt but over time some of the pharaohs became wicked and turned the children of Israel into slaves where they had to work so hard and not get to eat well and were beat and oppressed by the pharaoh’s men. They prayed and prayed that they would be saved. They knew that God stilled loved them, but they didn’t know how He would rescue them.

God sent a man who was an Israelite himself into the house of Pharoah, but he didn’t know it until later. God would call him to help rescue the people from the oppression they were going through. Moses, through God’s power, was able to free the people and he rescued them and they witnessed God’s love by his unexpected opening of the Red Sea so they could cross on dry ground away from the Pharoah’s chariots who were chasing them.

In Deuteronomy 5 it tells about how the people came to a holy mountain where God spoke to Moses and God wanted the Children of Israel to remember how He loves them and how they can show that they love Him and will follow Him.

Moses came down with two stones that God had scratched His love right into the rock. Can you imagine a love like that – so deep that it could write His love right into rocks? Ten times God wrote out His love, how He wants you to love him and how he wants you to love others and take care of others and be His. He wrote out his love, how He loves you with all of His heart and He wants you to love Him with all of your heart. Those ten times of love are called the Ten Commandments. They are not so much rules, as they are ways God can give His gifts to you. It is like He is giving you His love to experience.

God gave us these love gifts so that we can trust Him and know that His son came to help us when we don’t always keep those love rules. Which is sad to say. We all do stray away from God’s love sometimes, but He is always right there with His unconditional, unchanging, uncontainable, unending, and unfailing love. And He gave His Son so that we can repent and have our hearts changed again back to God.

This Christmas season read all the 10 commandments and talk about how each shows the love God has for us by giving these love rules.
