Obed had a son, and his name was Jesse. You remember the name; it is the same as the one in the scripture where there was a branch out of the stump of Jesse. God blessed the people of Judah who were the Children of Israel, but they still thought they wanted something different. They wanted a king, which really isn’t different at all because there were kings all around and the kings weren’t very nice to the people. But God let them have a king. But the first King Saul, didn’t really want to follow God, so God sent a prophet named Samuel to anoint another king. He went to Jesse because Jesse had lots of sons. At first Samuel thought God wanted the oldest one to be king, but in
1 Samuel 16:6-7, 10-12 it tells of how God let Samuel know to choose the king because God looks not at the outside of how people look or what he is to other people. God looks at the heart of people and knows when they want to be close to God. Samuel found David who was the youngest of the brothers and God said this is who should be king.
Long after David became King another king was born in Bethlehem. He didn’t look like a King on the outside either. He just looked like a little baby.
But on the inside, he had divinity because He was God’s begotten Son whom God gave to the world to rescue them and heal them and help them to return to God and His unconditional, unchanging, uncontainable, unending, and unfailing love.
This Christmas season look at people how God looks at them. Look at their heart and how they are trying to be good even when sometimes they mess up. Say a prayer asking God to help you see others as He sees them and also to help your heart want to love others like God loves them.
