December 11th - Rahab

The people who didn’t want to trust God had finally all died after the Children of Israel had wandered in the wilderness for 40 years. God wanted the people’s hearts to be ready to enter their promised land that had been promised them clear back with Abraham. There were going to be some miraculous ways that God would help them to come into the land. One woman had heard about God’s people who were coming to Jericho. Her name was Rahab. You can read about her story in Joshua 2. She was considered to be a harlot. But she was brave and saved the men of God and asked that she and her family be saved when the Children of Israel came to take over Jericho because she knew God could do it. The men escaped from the king’s men who were looking for them by a rope. They told her that they will know where she will be and save her family if she put’s this red rope in her window.

When the time came, she put the rope out because she knew God was the God that could be trusted. Her heart was tied to God by that one red rope like it was her only lifeline. She knew that God could change her, and her heart, and she trusted that unconditional, unchanging, uncontainable, unending, and unfailing love He has for His children.

What is neat about this story is that she is the many, many great-grandmother of King David who was the many, many great grandfather of Jesus who is the ultimate King who saves us through His blood of red that was shed for us. He gave His life so we can partake of God’s great love. He gives each of us a rope that ties us to Him if we but take ahold of that rope and hold on tight and trust that He will never let go.

This Christmas season find some red things around the house that will help you remember Jesus and the lifeline he give us to hold onto tight. Find some red yarn or string and tie up some small gifts to give to people to share about God’s gift to them by sending His son.
