December 17th - Journey to Bethlehem

There is a city that seems as plain as plain can be. It was nothing out of the ordinary except it was the city of the homeland of Joseph and Mary and they had to go there because it was what they did for taxes and the census. Mary was almost to have her baby and it was a rough trip, but she knew what they had to do, so they made the trip to Bethlehem. After staying there just one night a miracle happened in that plain city. A miracle that had been planned for centuries by God. That city became the place of the tiniest miracle with the biggest reach. Jesus was born in such humble circumstances. He wasn’t born in a palace even though He is the King of Heaven and Earth. He became a carpenter just like his earthly father, but he used his talents to not build things but to build people and fix broken hearts and broken dreams.

In Micah 5:2 it tells about a ruler that would come from the tribe of Judah who would be the everlasting ruler. Jesus is the ruler, but he doesn’t act like some of the kings we read about in the scriptures. He reaches out to the one who is struggling. He invites people to have dinner with him. He prayed for those he served. This is the kind of King we all need and guess what we all have? He lives to help us and strengthen us. He lives to help us to become the people we were meant to be. Even when we feel small and plain, He can make us more than we can see. He makes all the difference. He is our greatest miracle, and we are His. He wants so much for you to know what a miracle you are and how much you mean to Him and how much you can help Him by loving the people around you and help them see the miracles.

It's funny because sometimes we think miracles need to be big. But God doesn’t see it that way. He knows there are miracles in the tiniest of things, such as the song that is a prayer in your heart, the cry of grief for someone you loved so much, the whisper of I love you to a little child or even a big person! He wants you to see the miracles He gives every day, but He wants you to partake of the best miracle of all, His Son Jesus whom He loved so much that He sent Him to this earth to overtake all that is difficult.

This Christmas season write down 10 people who have been miracles to you and let them know how they have been a miracle and share with them the miracle of Jesus in your life.
