December 7th - Isaac

One day God came to Abraham and Abraham answered saying. “Here am I.” It was Abraham’s way of saying “I love you God and I trust you.” In Genesis 22: 2-13 you can read about God’s hard test for Abraham. God knew that Abraham trusted God, but God wanted to help Abraham really know how much he CAN trust God. Abraham could feel God’s love all around him just like he can feel the air all around him. God asked Abraham to take his son, the one he loved so, so much and sacrifice him. Abraham answered, “Here am I.” His heart was hurting but he loved God and wanted to show God how much he loved Him. So, he loaded up stuff to make an offering and took his son high into the mountain. Isaac asked where the lamb for the sacrifice was. Abraham’s heart was heavy, but he said, “God will provide himself a lamb for a burnt offering.” They came to the spot where Abraham built an alter and laid Isaac on the wood and stretched forth his hand to slay his son and an angel appeared and said “Abraham, Abraham.” Abraham said, “Here am I.” The angel told him not to slay his son, but this was a test to show how much Abraham loved God and to know that Abraham could always trust God to keep His promises.” Behind Abraham was a ram that was caught in the thicket and Abraham used that ram to offer thanks to God for loving him and Isaac.

This story helps us to understand the love God has for us to give His only Begotten Son, whom He loves soooo much to ALL of His children, so that they can look to God’s Son and live to return to God. Jesus Christ is the gift from God that shows that we are so important to Him and His Son, that He made it possible to return back to God.

Do you feel God’s love for you? He doesn’t ask you to sacrifice your own son, but He does ask that we help and care for each other, especially those who can’t help themselves.
