December 19th - Habakkuk

The family tree of Jesus grew bigger and bigger. Some were kings. Some were shepherds. And there were prophets along the way that would help the family of Jesus to remember God’s love. One such prophet was Habakkuk. He had a tower where he looked out on to God’s people, and they were sad. They were using their words and hands to hurt earth other. They had forgotten that having God as their God was enough. He wanted to help the people remember God and he wanted God to do something about it. In Habakkuk 2:2 God says to him, “I am going to do something amazing, but it will be in my own timing. So, write down the things I will tell you so that others can know what to look for.”

It is so hard to wait sometimes. But we can take the example of Habakkuk where he trusts God and what He says He will do, and he knows God will surely make it happen. We need to live by faith, instead of thinking it will happen like we think it will happen. He shouted from his tower that he will trust God and rejoice in the waiting time.

God’s timing is always perfect. He is never late, but He is usually not early either. Usually before He intervenes in something He lets us learn some lessons. He lets us learn that we cannot do it all on our own. He lets us learn that we need Jesus in our lives and His help to make it through the hard, difficult things we go through. We need to trust that He knows what He is doing. We need to trust that he is making something better for us even in the bad or hard times, because God is always there and make all things work for our good, but we have to let Him do His job. Sometimes our job is to just love and wait instead of struggle against what God may be trying to teach us.

The very best gift took until the meridian of time to come. And He came and He lived, and He died, and He rose again. That gift was so worth waiting for. It is sad that some people can’t see it, but that is why we celebrate Christmas to help us all remember that Jesus is the best gift we could ever get, and we are gifts to Him when we love Him and serve Him.

This Christmas season start a jar where you put times from this year that you had a hard time at first but then it worked out. Or even if there is something that is hard put it in the jar and later you may see when God has helped you work out the situation. Remember God works best on His timing because He knows all, and He knows what will be best for each of us in our own time frame. We are all unique so the timing will be unique too. Trust His process.
